BCF was hired to help pass a comprehensive transportation funding package, which required a difficult 2/3 vote of the legislature. BCF helped form and manage the Fix Our Roads coalition, and orchestrated a major push in support of Senate Bill 1 (Beall), which will generate more than $5 billion in new revenues annually for transportation. SB 1 and ACA 5 passed both the Senate and Assembly on April 6, authorizing the largest investment in transportation infrastructure in California history.
Proposition 53 would have required a statewide vote on revenue bonds of $2 billion or more. BCF was hired as campaign manager to defeat this difficult initiative that started with strong majorities of support of voters. After starting with a 40 point deficit, BCF helped defeat Prop 53 50.58% to 49.42%.
Californians for Water Security (CWS) is a growing coalition of residents, business leaders, labor, family farmers, local governments, water experts, public safety experts, taxpayer groups, environmentalists and others that have joined to mount a comprehensive, multi-year campaign in support of the plan to repair California’s aging water distribution system, through implementation of the California Water Fix.
BCF was hired to launch an aggressive campaign in opposition to AB 350 – a far-reaching bill that would have taken away a basic employer right of choosing who to hire. BCF built and worked with a coalition during the summer legislative recess to organize and to reframe the issue as an outrageous power grab and a vast over-reach by legislators. It was defeated on the Senate floor just a few weeks later.
